`CARNAVAL INTERATIVA`

The programme will work to empower Carnaval culture within the decaying port of Rio de Janeiro, the birth-place of Samba. This will allow us to negotiate with real-estate pressures to relocate Carnaval float fabrication away from its current port location near the Sambod­romo. The design workshop will take place at the Pimpolhos Carnaval School port warehouse, collaborating with local float designers and fabricators to invent a new type of interactive Carnaval float that would redefine the relationship between fabrication, performance and spectacle. Knowledge and expertise from local artisans will be combined with computational design and digital fabrication techniques such as Grasshopper associative design, process­ing, and Arduino, as well as CNC and laser cutting technologies as a means to con­ceive new float designs for the people of the Carnaval culture.
