algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi all,
I have two questions regarding mesh construction:
1. how do I close this mesh? or how do I close the solid intersection before creating the mesh? See attached image
2. how can I make weaverbird work in grasshopper 0.8 (using rhino 5, 32-bit, windows xp)? I know the latest wb version is for 0.9, however the download page says it is compatible with rhino 4.0 grasshopper 0.8, but it does not run when I use gh 0.8 in rhino 4.0 either.
NOTE: wb works in both rhinos (4 & 5) command lines, but not in grasshopper.
Any thoughts? An answer to any of the two will be greatly appreciated. I can share the definition upon request, you will need spiderweb, kangaroo, and geometry gym properly working in order for the definition to work correctly.
Thanks in advance for your time!!!

Hi Rene
thanks for this message. I am not sure how to answer question 1: it depends on the way you are creating the mesh in its first step. Maybe booleaning a sphere?
About question 2, it was my mistake: i forgot to update the description. You need Grasshopper 0.9. It's quite some time since the release of the first 0.9 series item, so unless absolutely necessary I would not plan to release a backward-compatible release. Is there a roadblock for you to update?
Thanks
Giulio

Weaverbird Developement
Hi Giulio,
thanks for your reply!!
regarding question 1: I created the mesh by getting the solid intersection of three pipes, but as you can see they end up with a hole at the end, which I could not close with any meshing method I know in grasshopper (wb, starling, uto's meshedit, geogym, meshfrompoints user object, etc.); I did try the sphere but the intersection/solid union between the pipes and the spheres did not work..unless I'm doing something wrong. From there I did mesh brep and then relaxed it with geogym.
regarding question 2: I use rhino 4 with gh .9 on my windows 7, and wb works perfectly, but I am also using a virtual machine to run XP, where I have Rhino 4 and 5 with gh .8 for opening older definitions and/or definitions that for some reason do not work in gh .9.
I've attached the definition for you to take a look (regarding question 1) if you have the time. I've disable the geogym components in case you don't use the plug-in.
thank you so much!

Hi Rene, I've looked at the definition but there is something missing, probably due to some GeometryGym components that I do not have. I will ask Jon to take a look. Otherwise, could you please maybe bake the intermediate result and send only the Weaverbird-related part?
Thanks!
Hi Giulio, thanks for replying. I've attached the definition without geogym components. However, you'll still need kangaroo for iteratively removing duplicate points in order to make the definition work. I can't seem to find the vb version for removing duplicate points, so I had to keep the kangaroo option. I hope it's clear enough. Zoom into the joint to see the small opening left after doing a solid union of the pipes. Thanks again!
