Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello everyone, I'm new in the forum.

I was running a simulation on a simple box with a particular shading applied on the windows to find the Solar Gains with the energy plus tool. The simulation ended with this fatal error:

1. The simulation has failed because of this fatal error: ** Fatal ** IP: GetObjectItem: SimulationControl, Number of ObjectDef Alpha Args [6] > Size of AlphaArg array [5].

Do you know how can I fix the problem? Do you know which is the problem?

Thank you,

Martina

1. Did you edit the SimulationControl inputs? Can you share the idf file?

2. Not sure if the inputs for this object has changed but which version of EnergyPlus are you using?

I run the same analysis with a simpler shading and it was working. For this one, that is quite complex, it gave me the error.

My simulation outputs can be seen in the attached image. You can also find the idf file. I'm using EnergyPlus 8.3.0. but, as said, for other analyses, the error doesn't occur.

I hope you can help me.

The idf file is generated with version 8.2.0. Is this the only version installed on your machine? The error doesn't have to do with the complexity of the model. It's about the EP SimulationControl object. I ran your file with Energyplus 8.6. It takes a long time to run but it runs. EnergyPlus complains that there are so many small faces in the file. You can remove smaller shading faces inside Grasshopper.
