Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Thanks for reading my post!  The title pretty much says it all.  I'm using the educational version of Rhino 5 64-bit for grad school studio.  I had a previous version of Grasshopper installed and it worked fine with the exception of some of the batteries having "Old" on them.  When opening Rhino, it prompted me to update Grasshopper.  Whenever I tried to update, the error message "File type not supported by Rhino" pops up.  In an attempt to get it to install properly, I deleted the previous version of Grasshopper and tried to install it from scratch.  Now I get the same message and don't even have the old version of Grasshopper anymore.  I followed the directions on a previous post about copying the RHI to the Rhino Plug-in folder, then dragging and dropping the RHI into Rhino 5, but I still get the same message.  I'm up the creek without a paddle and could really use some help as Grasshopper is a major component of the studio I am in.

Thank you in advance!

[...]with the exception of some of the batteries having "Old" on them.

That's not a problem, that's supposed to happen.

To install newer versions of Grasshopper you need at least Rhino5 SR3, though there may even have been fixes to the installer in later service releases. Which exact Rhino5 service release are you using?

I'm using SR7.  I made sure it was SR3 or later before trying the steps listed above.

In order to get a paddle you can use the "Manual Install Method"

change the extension of the file from RHI to ZIP. If you are not sure how then you can go to the Folder settings of Windows Explorer and un-tick "Hide Known File Types". This will allow you to rename the extension from .rhi to .zip

Then open them with WinZip or WinRAR and extract them to a location such as:

 C:\Program Files\Common Files\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\Plug-ins\Grasshopper\0.9.70.0

But it doesn't really matter as you then go to Tools>Options>Plug-ins Install and select the RHP file in your chosen location.
