I didn't use paneling tools. The 3D-surface was created using a combination of python script & grasshopper components (not the fastest way to do it probably) to make curves which are lofted into one surface.
Then I used a grasshopper definition which projects a spiral curve onto the surface and converts the curve into XYZ points which finally is converted to gcode for running the cnc milling machine.

Looks great! I really like the sort of interference pattern with the texture, toolpath and wood grain.
