Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello group,

i have a question concerning the bevel edges component ( or any other component that runs on percentage of edge length.) i want the the thickened edges of the mesh to have a constant thickness. so i divided the mesurment that i want to get in the end by the length of the corresponding edge length. this should give me a percentage for each line which should result in the right thickness. or am i wrong? i certanly am because it doesn't seem to work. is the thickness of the edge maybe calculated somewhat different? if anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. can i get this done if i switch to the parallelogram method? i am lost.

thanks in advance.

Hi Phelan,

Well, unfortunately it does not work that way right now. The values you obtain have to be used to later find the new point. This calculation (adding the two edges) is per-face right now, and uses face information. This way, bevel-vertices will find that same point and everything will keep on working. But in 3d, joining two non-coplanar faces will give a shorter distance than that of the two "picture-framed" edges. So, there is no way at this point to have the final width of the edge-derived face constant.

I know this sounds abstract, but it is just as it is!

no its perfectly clear. thank you for your reply.

i will stick with it for now and use an average the surface is not so much out of plane. recreating a similar effect with native grasshopper and nurbs operations doesn't seem worth it.

great tool anyway!

thanks again.
