Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I've created a parametric tower in Grasshopper and want to play around with Karamba. However, it doesn't work. Seeing many tutorials, it seems to me that first I need to create a surface, then triangulate it and obtain a mesh. I want to know if it's possible to perform a structural analysis in Karamba with just lines and somehow brace them to the floors. If so, how would you brace them?

I've attached my model to better explain what I mean.

It is working.. sort of. At least based on the information you've fed it.

At the moment none of your columns are connected to anything so they're spanning max height. You need to put more work into your tower geometry so that you're presenting Karamba with the info it needs. Perhaps start with a slightly simpler tower?

I've just modified the script slightly, added in the optimiser (you were feeding it a very small section size originally) and I've set supports at the high level so that they don't go twanging when you apply the load. All of this is purely to demonstrate that the script is working but that you need to correct the information you're putting in.

If you wanted to continue with this tower perhaps put in a floor plate at the intersection points and set a support to replicate this condition?

Thanks for your response!

I'll try to do a simpler tower, but I'll keep playing with this one as well... I'll ask another question soon!
