Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there,

I'm trying to use Karamba iterating with a MOGA to create ribbed shells based on the bending stress analysis of a given initial shell. Consider leaf nerves a good reference. Questions:

1. Is it possible to analyze a shell that has such changes on its cross-section? In theory, I should analyze it as a solid, but as far as I understand Karamba doesn't perform this type of analysis. Any reliable alternative?

2. Alternatively, could I hack the Shell Optimization component to do this?

Any help is welcome!!

Best,

Jorge.

Hi Jorge,

in Karamba3D 1.3.1 it is possible to define the thickness of a shell for each element individually via a 'Shell Var'-cross section. Please see the manual for details.

For a structure with small thickness as compared to the other two dimensions a volumetric analysis is normally not necessary.

Best,

Clemens

Many thanks Clemens, I'm going to explore the component you mention.

If I come up with some interesting result, I will share.

Best,

Jorge.
