Yeah, it could speed up some task. It's very slow have to click always at commit changes.

i use a workaround which works for these example:
- enter number
- hit tab (focus switches to "commit changes")
- hit enter

still i can imagine a lot more comfortable ways to change numerical values...

Yes, Tab/Enter is a nice work around.
