algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi Wieland,
I have asked about this here
http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/exoskeleton-in-pieces?xg_...
but I am not sure David saw the message. I presume nodes, struts and endpoints are dealt separately before the final mesh is joined.
From looking at your drawing it could be that you're cutting in the center of a strut, halfway between nodes, which might be trickier.
best
Mathias
Mathias, I hadn't seen that discussion, sorry about that! And you're right, they're all dealt with separately. The hulls are all solved first, and then the struts are solved and affixed to the hulls in sequence. So yes: it would be simple to keep the hulls and struts separate altogether, but quite a bit more of a challenge to split the struts mid-way and stitch them discretely to each hull.
Wieland, I don't think I have time to do this straightaway...there's also a question of deployment...it may be easier to just make this as a script rather than package it fully as a component. What do you think?
David,
a script that separates the hulls and struts would be great. Unfortunately I have no clue how to do this...
I'll have a look...I just had an idea for how to break the struts and attach them to the hulls
