Removing sides of a cell in a Vornoi Diagram based on edge length

Hello all,

I was just trying to figure out how it would be possible to remove sides of a cell based on whether the edge length is greater than or lesser than a particular value. 

For example in the image shown.. i have marked the edges which are smaller than a certain length. i want to remove those edges or merge those two points to form one point based on its proximity with the neighboring points. 

I know that the result will not be a vornoi diagram but just a network for polygons.. so just wanted to find out if its possible.

Any help will be appreciated.
