Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I was wondering if someone can improve on this idea of line weights that are controlled by distance. I started by extracting a wireframe and then resorting the lines in grasshopper acending in the x direction. Then I grouped by color using Ghowl and an excell file and baked the lines. In rhino, I grouped each color into a layer and made2d with the surfaces so that the lines will trim. The problem is that this method doesn't work with tangent lines or lines that touch the surface edges. It also wont work if each color is in one layer. I tried to make2d of pwidths in one layer but the pwidths returned to its default thickness after i made2d. Is it even possible to achieve a result of pwidths that are controlled by distance?

This won't help you much if you are looking for a vector output, but if have Brazil for Rhino you can use GH to bake vertex colors into meshes that represent line widths as a greyscale gradient and then use Brazil's vertex color shader to control the toon shader's ink width.
