Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I subdivided a surfase using the Divide/subsrf/explode method. the idea is to manupulate all panels equially (or individually for that matter) in order to generate a proliferation. once I found the normal to each panel, I inserted a PL (plane normal) into each panel and noticed that they were not all oriented uniformally. what i noticed is that in some of the planes had the x or y axis rotated 90 or 180 degrees. the result is that if I insert an ellipse into each panel, the objects would not be oriented unifomally. Why would this be, and how can Imake sure that all planes are equally oriented (still related to the normal of each panel)?

cheers!

Hi Diego, interesting. Can you upload your input geometry and definition where this occurred?
sure, here are the files...

Create your Srf4Pt's by inputting the cornerspts counter clockwise, or clockwise, depending on what nornal you want
nope that was not the answer I noticed, sorry about that. In what (which of the 4 tri's) plane do you want the normal? Maybe you want to create Srf4Pt with 4 pts and get the normal of that?

actually I would repeat the operation for all 4 triangles... also, I had also done this for a 4 edge surface and the same thing happened. that time I had actually found the normal with the evaluate surface component...
It's like Luis said, we need to find 3 directions. I will look into that later, okay. For now a workaround...

thanks. there is a point geometry missing in rhino. can I just insert a point at 0,0,0?
Yes you can pick any point, I chose to drag the point/plane to the side of the resulting geometry so it was easier to create the definition.
And you're welcome, I wanted to correct my earlier silly mistake ~:) and learn something. Glad you like it.
I found a working way to create the correct planes. For now I used the same ellipse on every tri.

interesting solution...

thanks a lot!

Sorry to bug in, but I am having a similar problem with the orientation of the planes. here is the file where you can clearly see taht the planes are not having the same orientation. (tehy are perpenticular to the lines but they don't keep the orientation of the axes)

Hi Stamatis, use the PFrames instead, on the polyline.
