Planard 3D distortion ...

Hello,

I am currently working on a huge façade that will be realised by laser-cutting some metal panels, quite traditional up to here.

I saw this image on pinterest and I would love to create a script to realize something similar, starting from a jpeg image or attractors maybe...

I have actually no idea how I can distor a grid of points (or any other figure) to give this threedimensional idea!

Someone has any tip?
