Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone!

I'm just trying to do a simple loft of 2 curves. In the image below, I made a line and an arc and joined them together. There is also a straight line below the curve. I'm trying to make a loft between both.

Here's a chunk of the definition:

I can make a loft between the arc and the line below, but it doesn't work when I join the line and the arc together.

Attached below is the 3dm and the grasshopper definition.

I know it's kind of a dumb question but I could do with some help!

Thanks in advance!

hey Ra,

i think but im not sure that the problem here is that when you look at the imput of the loft (s) component, you have a "line like curves, planar curves.".. making the output of the loft component "null"
maybe some of the pros will answer your question.. but if this is the problem..take a look at the link below and you will find the solution to the problem

Ra,
sorry, but i think flattening should help..see attach.. but using this gives you an open Brep..hope this is your solution.. if not then try the link above..

good luck

Hey Juan,

Good attempt. I'm still having problems getting the desired result. I'll keep trying though!

but in anyway..good luck

Hey Ra,

The model's looking good. Your problem lies with the data path structure. You need to supply the Loft component with like for like. Have a look at the image below. Here I have used the Param Viewer Component to inspect the path structure in order to see what needs doing. As there is another level of branches in the Curve we need to graft one onto the line.

In other circumstances you might need to remove preceding zeros to get the data to align, the component for this is Simplify. Anything more complex and you would have to use the path mapper component.
Thanks Danny,

That helps a lot. Could you please explain what the graft function does? I find that I can get things to work when I just simply plug in the graft component in between, but never fully understood what it does. When you graft data, does it just feeds out information about their paths?

Also, what do you mean when talking about "preceding zeros"?
