It depends. Simply way is use to Image sampler to convert the grayscale into value which controls the radius of circles. Certainly the involvement of thermal performance should be more convincing.

Personally I'd have thought kangaroo would be unnecessary unless I'm missing something. If you're just trying to replicate the look then something with an image sampler like txingyu suggested would work or some playing around with attractor would also work pretty well
