Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey everyone,

I am trying to digitize the physical model I have made for form finding shell in order to be able to compare them with real physical results and come out with several variations of form finding.

I gave  it a try by:
1. Construct the grid of the chain
2. Divide it into the individual segments that the forces will be applied
3. Mesh the surface in order to extract the edges
3 Use kangaroo forces the same with the Catenary example given

I think I messed it up

Does anyone knows what the problem would be?

Thank you Natasa

Hi Natasa,

See attached.

Make sure any forces like gravity or spring are plugged into the Forces input.

You anchor points need to coincide with points which you plug in the forces.

They are points which are fixed.

You can also plug the initial Mesh into the Geometry component to get the right geometry out.

Hope that helps.

Amazing!!!!! I am excited :)

It took me sometime to understand what you did.

So you:

1. Used Mesh UV to create the grid that the mesh will be extracted

2. Used mesh edges to extract the edges that will be used

3. Removed Duplicated edges to avoid any model failure.

4. Connecedt it to the  springs to test it.

5.Used vertices components to extract the points in order to be able to connect it to UForce( as the input is only points)

6.Decrease UForce  for better results(how do I know accurate to reality it is?)

Now, I am trying to extract the points(vertices components) in order to pull it upwards from several points more than the ones on the edges. Connect it the model but it doesn't work. i guess because it's not an actual point?

Thank you Arthur :)

Hi Natasa,

Any points can be used to "pull you mesh" as long as the initial points you use as "anchor points" coincide with the flat mesh vertices.

Have a look below and attached.

:))))

That is great!!!!

Thank you SO MUCH Arthur!!!

Hi Natasa,

I am also interested in this question, we called the numerical simulation of "inverse hanging experiment".

I tried to fulfill this simulation by ANSYS, used non-linear finite element method.

I hope that we can be friends, and get a further research on this method.

Sincerely,

Qingpeng
