algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi Tim,
I know this issue has already been reported but maybe this might add an other input...
So here we are, for some SRTM files which are still bigger than the OSM data, Elk is saying that the domains doesn't match. This happens quite a lot with more detailed SRTM files like :
DEM SRTM 1Second Hydrologically Enforced
5 metre Digital Elevation Model (DEM)
which can be found there :
When using more "standard" SRTM files like from https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ the issue seems to disappear..
Do you think that it could come from the pixel resolution (there's a slight change there...) ? Sometimes it works without any real explanation behind it..
Any thoughts or inputs would be very appreciated as some of those SRTM files have a better resolution thant the "standard" one.
Thanks !

I have the same issues.
I treid it in New York and the srtm file from https://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/ worked very well. Tried the same in Europe (Paris, London) and I have the same Errors as you. With the files from earthexplorer it worked, but they have not the best Resolution.
You already found a solution for the Problem?
Best regards,
Tim
Hi Tim,
Unfortunately no, I tried a couple of other sources and sometimes the problem happened again.
I worked around the situation by using Heron which is able to read any of the TIFF file. However I have to recreate XY coordinates from the Lon/Lat domain in order to match the boundaries and Origin with Elk as Heron is Geo-Referenced..
It is not ideal but seems to be close enough at the moment for most of the work.
Let us know if you find a solution, Could it be the way Elk parse the file? Cheers
Hi Romain,
It is a known limitation of Elk not being able to parse high resolution DEMs. So far, I had success with the 1-arcsecond (30m) and 3-arcsecond (90m) SRTM resolutions. The highest resolution accepted according to Elk's documentation would be 1/3-arcsecond (10m) but I have not tested it myself.
