Bubbles on free-form surface or polysurface (similar to beijing water cube)

Hello everybody,

first of all, I have to say this community is great, learned a lot since beginning to model with grasshopper a week ago.

I have a little problem on developing bubble surfaces on a free-form surface or polysurface.

As mentioned in the discussion title, I would like to create a look, similar to the beijing water cube, but not on a planar surface. And also the bubbles should only be very slightly tensioned.

I have tried 3 methods, they are all in the .gh file and best result ( smoothness of bubble) gives the "extrude to point" method. The problem is, the resulting mesh borders are not even close to the original surface, because of u,v setting to 1. I want the bubbles to have the original outline as border line. I don´t know if this is even possible.

The other methods are not very satisfying. ( I tried "inflate mesh" and third method was to patch the surface and point)

If somebody took a look in the file, I would be very glad.

Also there is another problem with the offset of the voronoi curves. Depending on the offset distance, the algorythm gives bad results. I used the clipper plugin, and have currently seen also pics of lines sticking out of the offset. Is there any solution for this?

For the bubbles, I have also seen similar solutions in the forum, but don´t know how to achieve them.Here is the pic of this solution, also posted in this forum and the discussion is here:http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/non-planar-voronoi-defini...The result I see here, has rounded borders of the voronoi extrusion, which I would not like to get.

this looks very nice. This is a solution I did earlier in rhino, but I would not know if and how it was possible to implement it in gh. I am going to try tomorrow.

Wie ich sehe kommst du ober bist du in Braunschweig. Die Leute die ich aus der Gegend kenne arbeiten irgendwie für VW. Ist das auch so bei dir? Falls ja, was machst du? Bist du bei VW im Design?

Im Strak kenne ich auch jemanden. Claudia Ernst. Kennst du sie eventuell auch? Ich habe vorher mit ihr in Berlin zusammen gearbeitet.

Is kangaroo allowed?

if yes this could be a solution.

needs starling and weaverbird plugins too. the voronoi polylines are not planar. also some populate 2d seeds output realy small lines to be used as springs. you can use lower tolerance or browse through seeds to get a valid solution.

Hi Alex,

I tried to open your file. Somehow, the bubbles in my file look different from yours. Take a look at the screenshot.

Do you have any idea, how to get it work? Maybe my kangaroo plugin doesn´t work correctly. I have not tried kangaroo before, although I have installed it some time ago.

I tried to change the pressure level but nothing happened. The pressure level had no influence on the look of the surface. What makes me curious is, the refine tool and naked points tool works properly.

Is there anybody else on the forum who will check the file and can respond, if the file works for him?

double click the kangaroo solver component to pop up controls to initialize the simulation. press play pause etc.
