Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

Has anyone ever imported a .las pointcloud to rhino-gh using VB.net, C#.net, Python or manually?

Any help is very much appreciated!

Can you post a link to whatever online document describes the LAS file format?

Mmm...I don't know if this could help you a little bit :)

And this is general information about the LAS file format: http://www.asprs.org/Committee-General/LASer-LAS-File-Format-Exchan...

Thanks Angel, this was insightful! :)

Hi David,

They are described here: http://www.asprs.org/Committee-General/LASer-LAS-File-Format-Exchan...

As far as I know, a point cloud in this format could contain xyz coordinates, RGB colors and an intensity values.

BTW, are there functions for point cloud segmentation and classification somewhere in Rhino or Grasshopper namespaces? I wonder how I could efficiently insert point cloud items using this from a .las file for instance (I don't know if this is the best way of doing it):

Thanks for your support,

Pirouz

Grasshopper doesn't support point-clouds at all. There is also no native support for per-object colours. If you use the [Custom Preview] component for this then the performance will be terrible. Orders of magnitude slower than native Rhino pointclouds.
