Variable curve offset along length and between points

Hi all,

I have been working on a scale pattern and I am running into some problems with variable curve offset. In the first image you can see how I cheated and more or less solved it. The second image is what it's supposed to be.

What I want do achieve:

- There are curved lines for the scales

- The scale pattern should become more dense towards the outside and more transparent in the middle.

- Each scale is a separate arc. The variety needs to be in the offset of the middle of the arc (300 near sides, 50 in middle). The tips of the scale always need to have an offset of 50.

- I do not want to split the scales (that is what I did in my cheating-method...)

Ideas? Anyone?
