algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Yannis,

How about including a Transformation - Output?

Just noticed PackRat apparently redraws the boxes and doesn´t keep the order within the containers even with sort set to false, so it is a lot of reverse engineering, if  you like to track back the transformations.

Best,

Phillip

Well, just noticed. It wont keep the order anyhow:

Hi Philip,

In single container scenarios, and in cases that all elements fit, order is preserved (Image 1). However, you understand that in multiple scenarios this is not guaranteed, i.e. the 3rd element may fit in the 2nd container but the 4th element may fit in the 1st container (Image 2).

I was thinking to introduce two extra outputs with the indices of the elements in place – you just connect to a list item component and you get the originals in the same order as the packed.

The Transformation idea is also a good one though. I will consider it definitely. Thanks.

Lastly, I can see from the screenshot that you are using Packrat 0.4, which is unsupported since the release of 0.5.5. Please be advised that the changes I described will be done in Packrat 0.5.5 and up.

Thanks,

Yannis

Hi Philip,

In the end I included a Transformation output in Packrat 0.5.9.

The index idea I intend to follow for a future release.

Hi Yannis,

thanks a lot for the Transformation output!

Is there a reason why things are only able to be packed in a certain orientation?

Like this:

p.s.: Sorry for still using the evaluation.

Philip hi,

As I have mentioned in the reply to your mail, baking and re-internalising the obstacles fixed the issue, also in this file. Not sure as to the reasons behind this.

The reason the new element is appearing in a different position in the transformed case is that Packrat starts looking for available positions from the lowest ones (smallest Z-value).
