Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Forgive me if i have my concepts mixed up!

What i want to do is create a surface (possibly non-planar) and map a black and white image onto it but also use the values of that black and white image as extrusions. For example, the white creates bigger hexagons, i also want the white to create 'further' extrusions (which i think ive pretty much gotten down, next step is putting it on a surface)

another thing i spent a ridiculous amount of time on is trying to make a rectangle (curves) around the boundary of the image sampler (400x185px) but cant get it to change depending on other factors in the definition.

please see attached, since i probably butchered my idea in the text above!

Thanks so much!

So i found the x and y domain but how can i extract those values independently so that i can use them as x and y dimensions for a rectangle. my ultimate goal is to divide the rectangle and push/pull pts and then map the extrusions to that surface. for example, if x and y domains are 400x185, how can i use those numbers (if changed/stretched via grasshopper) to also change the rectangle/surface that i make from it?

and for the extrusions on double curved surfaces:

Maybe you could draw what you are trying to achieve?

so hopefully this helps.

I want it so that if i control the x and y domain that it automatically updates the rest of my definition by directly drawing that information.

then i created my surface, but i'm unsure how to select the points. I've created an Item list, but it selects entire rows, not individual points. ideally, i'd be able to do a random selection of points and move them in the perpendicular (to the plane) axis.
