Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone,

I've been introducing Rhino and Grasshopper to students in Math Classes at Schools (Junior High and High School Level). The students loved it - and the teachers loved it, too, because it "playfully" illustrates otherwise quite dry concepts of mathematical geometry.

However the foreign language made it quite difficult for them to explore the program further on their own. The kids with very much drive eventually figured out the pictos, but the teachers were reluctant to include GH into their regular curriculum, due to the language barrier.

So I was wondering if there are plans to give Grasshopper additional User Interface Languages.

If NOT - I would like to place it on the wish list.

Also, I believe if you implement a way of changing languages through language files, I believe the community would probably do the translation for you.

Thanks

It hasn't really come up yet. As far as I know all other major Rhino plugins have been translated so Grasshopper is definitely the odd one out here. On the other hand, Grasshopper is a very text-heavy plugin so translation'd be a hell of a job (open source it maybe?). Also, despite several years of development we're still in alpha phase.

Before development starts on GH 2.0 I want certainty on this matter though as it will require a lot of changes to core code.

aaand... you'd need an API for 3rd party plugins to provide their own language capabilites.

I'd like to think the Grasshopper SDK is pretty friendly to 3rd party GHA files. There's few things you cannot do as a 3rd party developer. But yes, it will need to be exposed in a flexible yet easy to use way. The .NET framework has some localization mechanisms so I think I'll start with those first.
