Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi

I`ve made a metaball definition in grasshopper, but the curves from the metaball output is very jagged where I want a smooth curve. Is there a way to fix that?

Thanks, Børge

Hi Børge,

Try lowering down the value for "A" plug (Isocurve sampling accuracy) of the MetaBall component as much as possible. Input a Number slider in it, and then play a bit with low values (let's say: 0.006 or something).

That helps on the smoothness, but the next thing I`m doing is extruding the curves, and the whole definition becomes very slow because of the number of lines. I guess there is no way of making it a spline then..

thanks!

Hey Børge,

There is - instead of extruding the polyline curve, try creating an interpolated curve through all those points. That will much lower the "overload", you are right on that. Basically just copy the part grouped in green and add it to your definition:

Btw, do not worry if the preview in Rhino does not look good.
Just set your "preview mesh quality" from "Low quality" to "Document quality". Like so:
