Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

I'm new to Grasshopper and just doing the tutorial on this link: http://wiki.bk.tudelft.nl/toi-pedia/Tutorial_1_-_Rotating_Tower

Basically I get to the part where the upper polygon gets rotated and a loft is drawn between it and the lower polygon. However, when I rotate the upper polygon the loft disappears. What's going wrong? It doesn't seem to explain it in the tute.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Thanks again.

Hi Michael,

Thanks very much for your reply. I follow what your solution is. It's quite a different way of looking a the problem.

I don't suppose you know why mine wasn't working when the example which was laid out in the tutorial (which should be the same) did work?

Cheers,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew, What is the error you're getting? (Hover over the little red box, or just upload the grasshpoper definition).

The error I'm getting is:

"Loft only works with only open or only closed curves."

Any ideas on how to rectify that?

Thanks for your help!

Andrew.

For some reason, the loft works at 3 angles of rotation of the upper polygon. The loft forms at 0 degrees, 90 degrees and 180 degrees.

Not sure if that helps solve the problem...

Hi Andrew,

Try adding two components called "Closed" with two Panels connected to their ends. Like this (the ones grouped in purple block):

In those two yellow block you should get "True". That means both polygons are closed.
Loft will also work even if you get "False" in both yellow panels (which means both polygons are open) but that would be incorrect, as these polygons are closed by default.

Try Michael's definition above, that is probably the best solution.
