Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I think it would be nice to have a color preview component so you could see the color swatch generated by your definition (without having to use custom preview on some geometry and switching over to rhino and then back to grasshopper).

Maybe it would take the form of a small panel but instead of showing text it would show color (and maybe also the RGB or HSL values that were used to create it?).

thoughts?

I agree.  This would be helpful.  One trick I've used in the past is to feed the color into the Legend component.  It's not ideal, but should give you a sense of the color in your GH definition.

Actually legend is pretty much what I was looking for - but it would be nice though to have more display options - Resizing the color square for one.

It actually think it would be kind of neat to have a special panel who's background was defined by the color being input. This way it could be any size (which is helpful when you have large definitions or need to view the definition from far away (which sometimes happens - especially when testing things with the kinect tracker).

Maybe you could right click on it to choose if the color value is displayed or not, and if it is expressed in RGB or HSL.

But if it doesnt happen, the legend option works too. Thanks andy!

I've already beefed up Legend for the next release, it can now show both vertical and horizontal legends as well as discrete and smooth colours. There will also be a way to show a 3D legend in the viewport.

I think a separate object that can display a large amount of colours in various ways would be quite useful, I'll see about adding it.
