Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I know about the new Ironpython editor in Rhino V5 WIP so I wonder if there is a plan also to add Ironpython in Grasshopper? I hope so... I think it could be great to use the same language for scripting and to add functionalities in Grasshopper. Moreover python has a strong scientific/academic background, I guess more than VB or C#, and it is multi-platform (in its pure version of course) so that it is easy to have a Grasshopper version for Rhino OS X which implement Python scripting.

I also know that there were an "old" version of Grasshopper which already included the possibility to add Ironpython functions, why it has been no more developed? It is still possible to download that version somewhere?

Thanks,

Paolo

Hi Paolo,

yes, there was an old version which had Python implemented, but it used the old Rhino SDK which meant it suffered from awkward and frequent crashes because the old SDK did not play nice with the DotNET DLR.

We will probably eventually again support python scripting in Grasshopper. But I don't know when this will happen.

Hi guys,
it would be definitely great if you could take the step and bring Python back into GH. Would be a big help and make it even better!
Anyway, thanks for your great work, you really made huge achievements in the last few months!
I second this.

And thanks for everything that Grasshopper is!!!
Triple Seconded.
Quadruple Seconded
