algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi. this is the first time the Orient Component gives me trouble.

I don't know if its me or not, too many hours on the PC..

its a surface that came from galapagos, from a minimal bounding box calculation...there are 90 different groups of breps, so i need them to be re-oriented to their original position and with the new bounding box "attached".

see the image below for clarification.

I know there must be an easier way....but my brain its about to pop from the 3 previous gigantic definitions to get this panels modeled >_>

thx a lot in advance

From what I see at a glace you are aligning one face from the galapagos surface to the original face. A little less components might be to use the surface normal at its center. But that might take longer to compute.

What exactly causes the reorientation in galapagos? Maybe you can transform some sort for reference plane in the same way and reorient with that. If you can't then there is no simpler way than extracting some edge or face from both breps and orient them.

the thing is that the orientation of the brep it's perfectly fitted with the target one....but as the image shows the final oriented brep its scaled down...and I don't know why is that....not even the single face i'm aligning has the same size...

i'm working on a project for fabrication and i divided the entire process on several big gh definitions for every step of the process, just for the sake of a cleaner and controlled workflow. the 4th step is a galapagos process for getting the minimal bounding box of a subset brep of a big panelized hanging "thing", in that the brep gets oriented differently..

the next two steps are orienting to the original position for a cable/tensor definition with a supporting metal grill and orienting to a XY plane in the ground for 3D milling...both causes scaling :c

then i get lost, because other little orientation definitions i have for laser cutting pieces works perfect

I'm gonna try using a reference "thing" that gets oriented by galapagos as well like you said..

thx for the insight :)

edit...solved it ...it was a problem with the previous definition :s ...fix that and change reference objects and now works perfect even with the un.oriented brep not "grounded" to CP
