Need Help making geometry (square with square "hole")

Hi

I am totally brand new to grasshopper and a newbie at Rhino. I want to create the geometry in the picture (a square surface that has another square cut out of it) in grasshopper. I can make both squares in grasshopper several different ways but from there I am lost. I am not sure what tool would a) create split between the two surfaces and b) delete the inner surface.

I feel like the solution is probably simple but I am just not seeing it.

Probably the easiest would be to feed the two squares into a "planar surface" component - it will automatically treat the inner square as void.

and if your situation becomes more difficult than andrew describes there is a tab names intersect, for solid and trim options, for surface you will need split surface.
