Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Can anybody think of a neat way to tile a wall of a given dimension with a series of tiles of fixed width (i.e. 1/2", 1", 2", and 4") in a random pattern.  The pattern in the attached image was done manually.

The best I can come up with is to estimate a minimum number of tiles that it would take to cover that width, and then propagate the random tiles and cull the "leftovers" that fall outside the wall's boundary.

Have you found a solution to this yet?

I have been looking to do this exact thing on Grasshopper.

first approach, the last strip on the right is the only one that hasnt one of the values you want. i cant figure how to divide your surface all with desired width. Hope helps. ;)
