algorithmic modeling for Rhino
hi david and everyone,
i am dimitris and i am a post graduated student. i am working my thesis now. i design a sun shade for an office building and i want to connect diva with galapagos such as to have the specific daylight factor inside the building. i dont understand the way that i can create the appropriate definition such as to solve that problem. first of all is that possible? and secondly is there a sample definition such as to understand the sequense of moves? thank you

Hi dimitris;
If I understood correctly you want to use Galapagos to optimise daylight factor and shade's geometry! it's possible to use Galapagos and diva for optimization but you need to define your shade in grasshopper properly, your parametric part is your shade i think, so it depends on how you define the geometry. I recently used Galapagos with diva and it worked. you just need to follow the diva tutorial for grasshopper and just add Galapagos to your definition. to understand your problem, it would be better to send your file or a screen shot I think . . . I'll upload a file as a sample maybe it helps . . .
Just remember, I just made it for you so inputs are not precise, it just demonstrate the steps hopefully . . . and you need to define the material again . . . (look at the tutorial)
Good luck
ok! here we are... a simple model and the definition uploaded...
i have put 2 attractors there and i want to relate them with the daylight factor
(i cannot run yours definition)
Thank you Mr.Hamia
Well, I’ll check my definition again. But I just check yours. Have you gone through the tutorial? as i understood if I’m not wrong opening size are dependent on the distance between attractor and centre of the surfaces, so you just need to connect genome to the sliders move your attractors and Fitness to the result of daylight factor, but I can’t see any diva component in your definition,
best;
that definition is one step before! you have understood exactly the problem! i have one pdf of diva but it is only for rhino. i have found 4 diva for grasshopper tutorials in videos but they dont explain enough the way that diva works! also i have found this link http://www.diva-for-rhino.com/usersforum.html Is there any other link?
Hej dimitris;
sorry i was on a trip, just arrived, this link is the best you can follow, you can find few pdf online as well, btw did you manage to make it work? . . .
Still confused but i am back! i cannot understand the way that i relate calapagos with daylight levels...
p.s it doesnt work! i cannot take results...
any idea?
i can understand that you take all the data results... divide them with the list lenght such us to take the average daylight factor. then u subtract the result with the number 2... we try to make the result zero right? after that i cannot understand... what is abs(x)? the difficulty of the language and the new symbols... would you like to explain that a little bit...
best!
hello and happy new year, sorry i was on vacation again and im back now. well ii use abs because i didn't want negative result uder wise when i asked galapagos to minimize the result it would count negative numbers as well.
best,
can we create an equation such as F2=(x-y)^2? the minimum point is zero...
it is the same?
best,
Of course you can, you just need to prevent the negative result,
best,
i have simplified the model but still i cannot take results! the analysis grid is overscaled and the values of the daylight factor is an amount of big letters one above the others... i really need help there! is there any proplem to the definition? the files are organized well? any idea...
best,
P.S. Mr.Hamia i try to run your definition and there is a pop up error message says: Rhinoceros 4.0 Rhinoscript/ SOURSE: microsoft VBScript runtime error / ERROR: file not found/ LINE 19/CHAR:1
Is threre a part of code missing?
Hi Dimitris and Hamia,
I'm attempting to do something like you guys are trying, but here, i'm having some difficult to open yours definitions (different versions issues...). Could you upload a screenshot?
How much time it takes to calculate?
Thanks and happy new year!
