Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear all,  I'm having  a strange problem with Giulio Piacentino's great "Render Animation" Component. I'm using  RA GH 0.8.0004 version with the 0.8.0009 version of Grasshopper.

Well the problem is when I animate a slider which is connected to the "current" input: it seems to render 2 times the same data, is to say the same geometry (the problem does not happen when I animate the slider without the Render Animation Component). This means that now the process takes 2  more times to complete, which is really unfortunate because I am rendering hundreds of images for a short animation.

I do not know if this is important (my knowledge of programming language is null), but when I open the grasshopper file the render animation component has a Runtime Message:

1. Warning: 'Rhino.DocObjects.ObjectAttributes.DisplayMode' is obsolete: 'Use SetDisplayModeOverride/RemoveDisplayModeOverrride' (line321)

I'm also attaching the rhino file and the grasshopper definition in which I'm working on. It is a simplified GH definition version of a larger one but it is enough to reproduce the problem

Well I really hope someone can help me.

Thank you very much,

Igo

Hi Igo,

here a new breed of the renderAnimation component script. It has now a keepResults flag.
It seems the results that are baked are not double, at least not here?

Hi Giulio, unfortunately here the results that are baked are double!

I have made a short screen recording which i upload here. As you will see the result is baked two times, even the render window appears twice. When the keepResults flag is set to True, two baked geometry are found in the rhino viewport when finished. Any idea?

Thanks,

Igo

I see what you mean, Igo.

There is a bug in this version of Grasshopper: the slider sends two update notifications instead of one, so the script runs twice.

I'll ask David if he can get it fixed. In the meantime, you could use an older version of Grasshopper, or a script that handles the animation with a timer independently. You can test this with the attached test definition.

Thank you Giulio for help me with this, I will give a try with the test definition attached by you.

Hi Giulio,

Thanks for making Vray animations possible.

I'm also having trouble with the renderAnimation component. I quite certain I have the right configuration. However, when I toggle the timer the geometries that are meant to change don't appear in the render. I know it's not a problem with the timer since I ran through the animation in preview. Any Ideas to what may be the problem?

Thanks in advance for your time. This is for a moving facade studio. The program is a vertical farm//Biotech corporation.

Hi James

at first I thought that there was some error as well.

However, it is actually alread working --- though the surfaces end up in the "Curve" layer, that is the default layer. Being that hidden, there is no visible result.

I hope this helps,

- Giulio
