Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello.  I would like to drive Inventor parts and assemblies through grasshopper.  I have succeeded in doing the following:

 

Stream a parameter from Grasshopper to a .csv file, which I link in Excel.

Import the Excel file into Inventor, and set the desired parameter to the imported parameter (for example, extrusion distance can be linked to the Excel value).

 

This works OK, but Excel only seems to update the linked .csv once a minute tops, so there is no instant feedback.  You can manually refresh links, save the file, then rebuild the part in Inventor to reflect changes in the parameter from GH.  It would be great to get rid of the middleman (linking a .csv to Excel) and simply write to Excel with every change in GH.  This way, I could change a parameter in GH and merely rebuild the part in Inventor.  This of course requires that I format the Excel file properly in GH so that Inventor will recognize the values.

 

This definition seems like it would work perfectly, but I can't figure out how to use it.

Genoform allows you to store the driving parameters and use them with other CAD packages. You can create models with SolidWorks and Inventor and use the stored data table - which you can save as an Excel table.
