algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello all,
I am trying to investigate bending of surfaces. Unfortunately I cannot get the example files posted here to work... http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/kangaroo/forum/topics/new-versio...
...the example file 'bendsheet.ghx' in particular. I think this may be because the files were created in an earlier version of GH and are corrupt when opened in the new GH.
Can anyone help me with bending sheet materials (mesh surfaces) with kangaroo. I understand the concept of bending linesand have managed to do this, however i am now trying to bend a sheet material. I can get some basic movement but its not really correct. I get folding as opposed to an even or plywood like bend when i use the hinge force so i dont think i am using the components in the correct way to achieve this. i have searched many forum posts and cannot find any working examples of how this works.
Can anyone advise on concepts of using the hinge force and where i may be going wrong? Do i need to use more than one instance of the hinge component? I would really appreciate some help.
Many thanks
Chris

Ive uploaded my definition so far in case anyone can advise where i may be going wrong. Thanks
Hello all, i am still struggling to make this work having trawled the forum, marten nettleblandts posts and videos and posts by Daniel piker the Kangaroo developer.
Unfortunately i am still having major difficulties. has anyone else managed to bend surfaces with Kangaroo?
im not really getting any surface bending, more folding and wrinkling of the surface.
Please if anyone has managed this and can provide some pointers i would be very grateful!
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris. Do you have a Rhino file to go with it? (It's asking for some points).
Please have a look at this example:
http://www.grasshopper3d.com/photo/mn-comparison
and download the files here:

I think it's similar to what you want to do.
You can move some points at the end of the mesh strip (not too far each step) and the strip will adjust.

Marten fantastic, Thank you very much.
I had a look at the post before but somehow i didnt notice the files that you had attached to the post. I have just had a go and its great it will really help with my progress. I will let you know how i get on with my project in due course. Thanks again,
Regards,
Chris
Thanks Marten for your example files! This is work in progress, but at least a good starting point for a digital representation of the physical model.
hello,
I wish I could try this definition, but I have some problems with it,
could you please help me, and tell what could be wrong? i just downloaded it and opened it and it is not working...maybe i have different scale or dimensions, or could it be that i have never version of GH or Kangaroo? please let me know, it could really help with my project, thanks
Hi, I think you need to install WeaverBird. Best /Mårten
thanks a lot, now it is working :)
