Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

First post and first opportunity to play with Grasshopper!

Is there a way, or are there plans for methods/blocks to manipulate object attributes? i.e. object meta data.
We would like to be able to generate geometry and add a collection of custom attributes to each created instance, to be used downstream in the process.
'course we could script this in RhScript but it would be a lot nicer to have this functionality as a designer friendly block.
Any other people interested in similar functionality?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

welcome aboard. This is currently only possible through VB or C# scripting. Someday soon we'll add support for all kinds of attributes, but until then... no.
Well thank you Sir, it is nice (finally) eta a chance to be on board.
The manipulation of object properties was something we discussed briefly when Bob & co was visiting, but has since become apparent that it would be very useful for our research; wiring multiple applications together using process automation and optimization tools.
Have you had other requests from Grasshopper users regarding this? Could we (meaning interested users) combine efforts and and come up with a spec for how this ought to work?

Course we can go down the C# route to prototype it
Hi Thomas,

I have some thoughts on how to tackle this, but I welcome any additional ones. And specs are always useful.
We will write up a spec over the next couple of weeks on this one. Is it possible to create shared project pages using this site or is that something for the wiki?
