Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I just made a User Component but my naming for it wasn't valid for Windows file naming conventions because I had named it Neon Outline 1/8".

I wasn't getting any error messages in Grasshopper and couldn't figure out why it wasn't showing up in the User Object folder.  I tried several times and then I named it Neon Outline, saved fine.  Then it clicked, I tried to make a text file with the name Neon Outline 1/8" and it gave me the standard filenames can't contain blah, blah......

Would it be a good idea to hook that into the save UserObject?  So if a user tries saving a component with an invalid filename they are prompted that they need to rename it?

I know it sounds simple and I should have caught it and known better, but it threw me for a loop a little bit.

thanks,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

yeah, makes sense. I'll either need to munge the UserObject names so they are always safe as filenames or restrict the allowed symbols. I'll figure something out.
