Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello

I am new to grasshopper, I just wanted to see if it is the program for me!? I use rhino and t-splines. What I am trying to do is create is random path generation around a complex 3d shape. A bit like the geodesic and short path route around the shape. I am trying to create a sculpture by wrapping it in strips of carbon , needs to random!

I think I might be abit out of my depth.....any help would be great

cool!

hi Danny... can you help bbe get this defination working. I dont know how to apply this to a geometry.

Create a Solid in Rhino, a torus is a good example.

Then Right click the Brep Param component at the start of the definition and select "set one Brep" from the context menu. Then select the torus in Rhino and when you go back to the definition the component should no longer be orange.

you may need to play around with the sliders in the "Remove the longest and shortest outside your desired parameters" group and the "Reduce the List further" group depending on the scale of your geometry in Rhino.

I tried taking the BRep and adding a Divide Surface component.  Then feed the UV into a Jitter component and then into a Curve on Surface.  You can refine it a bit by using Shift List after the initial Divide Surface uv to get rid of some points.  On a quick trial it worked well, though occasionally the line would jump off the part.  This could be remedied by changing the jitter amount or adding/subtracting points.
made another, simpler than my last.  I used a closed curve (curve on surface option).  Also set the Y random domain to .05 to .95 which, in this case kept it from making points at the very ends (tended to bunch up there..)
