Lighting, materials and rendering in Vray for Rhino

Ok so this doesn't have to do with grasshopper really, but I'm having issues just making simple renders of scenes. When I add lights they appear in the default rhino renderer, but then when i turn on vray shadows just seem to go in one place (I'm assuming that's some default, sky light). I kept messing around with settings but I keep having the same problem... and often things just seem to get duller if any change comes at all... Making a nice metal material seems to be impossible. I tried to look up tutorials but they aren't helping that much. Any ideas how to help?

Hi Ksenia,

On the Systems Tab of the VRay Options there are some tick boxes that might sort this problem, make sure default lights is un-ticked. Unfortunately I haven't got Vray at home but I could look it up tomorrow when I get to work (in about 10 hours) if no one else has come up with anything.

yeah i unticked default lights... i dunno, it seems like sometimes i can get something different to happen but it never looks good... always some faded image and not very pretty... applying a bitmap is easy enough but when it comes to reflection, shinny-ness, etc I can't seem to get a good image.
