Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Heya guys,

I've set up a route in GH that defines two seperate Breps (I think this is the right terminology), I'm trying to get one to act as a cutting surface, and the other to trim to it. sounds simple enough. I have tried all the Boolean commands with no successfull outcome. I can define the intersection, but can't manage to trim the object. I've looked at previous queries but a lot are dated some two years ago, is there a way to achieve this now?

I have attached two Jpegs files explainging what I'm trying to achieve, one in the GH interface, and the second showing the geometry in Rhino. I have also attached the GH file im working on.

Appreciate the help guys,

Dave

Hi David, the Solid Difference does work on the Breps you pointed out. It results in 2 Breps, Put this in List Item component to select the Brep you 'want to keep'.

oh....thats very nice, Pieter! I made it much more complicated:-)

I did not knew this one!!! Haha!

I didn't notice the shelves weren't solids ... Well it worked:) I didn't know this one either!

Cheers guys, I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes. on another subject though, any ideas why I cant open attachments that you sent? I just seem to get a load of computer code in a seperate explorer window. Any ideas how I can translate this into GH and Rhino?

Thanks,

D

Hi Pieter and Dedackelzuch,

Would either of you be able to send a screen shot of what you've created to solve the problem as I can't access the GH File?

Cheers for the help again

here is mine

can't you drag the ghx onto grasshopper stage?

no I cant. If I click on it, I get forwarded to a page with loooks like  software information, and then if I try and grab and drop it into GH nothing happens??

Maybe this is worth a seperate post? what do you think?

Just one more thing? Is there a way I can cut the line that the extruded Brep is following aswell?  I can now trim the Brep by the original line is still there? and I cant seem to trim that one? any ideas??

Thanks,

Dave

You want to trim the line? Find the intersection point of the original lines, and create a domain to use for the Sub Curve component to create a new line.
