Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I am new to Grasshopper and Karamba and trying to model a concrete frame building - columns, beams and slabs.

When creating the shell on the 1st floor, it is connecting to the four corners and isn't fixing along the beams (see image). Is there a way to make a one way spanning slab that transfers vertical loading onto the beams?

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Dear Thomas,

judging from the above figure it looks as though you discretized the floor slab with only eight shell elements. In order to get useful results the number of faces in the mesh should be increased.

The beams will connect with the slab if they have common nodes. You could use the GH component 'MeshEdges' to get the boundary edges of the mesh. Take its 'E1' output as the axes of the edge beams.

Best,

Clemens

Hi Clemens,

I have a similar problem, but I don't understand what it means to "Take its 'E1' output as the axes of the edge beams" - what are the axes of the end beams?

Thanks,

Julie

Hi Julie,

the E1-output of the 'MeshEdges'-component is the list of naked edges of a mesh, which connect to one mesh-face only and thus lie on the mesh perimeter.

Best,

Clemens
