Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi!

I am a newbie at this, and I am trying to make a section that emulates slate for a drawing I am making for my thesis. I have attached an image of what I am looking for.

Any suggestions? Make a bunch of jagged horizontal lines and a few vertical ones, offset, intersect, trim?

It's a highly isotropic type of geometry, with a lot of detail if you look close enough.

I'm not sure this will work, but I'd start by generating a set of large random numbers, and then another set of smaller random numbers at a higher frequency. Add the two together and you might get the layered detail you see here.

I have no good ideas on how to achieve the variation along the fracture boundary though.

Here's some logic that:

  • Generates a polyline with two levels of detail, each adjustable in frequency and amplitude
  • Has an adjustor for making the lines connecting two different offset more or less straight.

Wow, thanks for the quick and very informative replies! That looks exactly what I need to get into, thanks!

Missing GH2 multiplication component, GH1 version attached.

Thanks, I keep forgetting that.
