algorithmic modeling for Rhino

form finding kangaroo-control spring tensions

hi all,

i want to digitally experiment and reproduce the photo of the physical photo below. I m using Kangaroo but I have some difficulties to control the springs. Any ideas on how I can come closer to the photo's result?

Thank you in advance.

Hi jm,

In that photo you have a sheet material (felt?), which resists both shear and bending, and just a grid of springs will not model this behaviour.

So I suggest instead using the 'shell' component.

I'll post an example in a minute.

Dear Daniel, thank you very much for your advice and the definition. I still have some questions (it s my first time using Kangaroo and my experience with GH is limited too):

1.what kind of tessellation did you use?

2.how is it possible to make the surface smoother?

3. how can i come closer to the effect of the photo? i still miss two ripples (look at the pictures)

Once again thank you in advance!

Hello

you can use weaverbird (http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/weaverbird) to make the resulting mesh smoother after the simulation.(or the initial one before passing it to kangaroo but that will definitely not help the speed of the simulation)

thx ng5! i ll test it

Hi evereybody,

I am new to kangaroo in grasshopper, and I was wondering if it was possible to create wrinkle on a cylinder by bending.

Here is an exemple of the wrinkle I would love to do.

I thought that It could be doable starting from a mesh of a cylindre and create some constrain in Kangaroo.

Could someone help me out ?
Thank you very much

Hi Daniel,

thanks for the definition. I have opened it today (GH version 9.0076) unfortunately the Point component is empty.

Can you tell me what are those points exactly?

thnakyou

I've added the points in the old definition, but also attached here an example showing how to do this in K2
