algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Question in hexagon grid

Hello Guys,

I have a hexagon grid and I have offset the cells so there are space between them. I have extruded the cells. But I would like to have something like this. A small rounded rectangle connecting the cells in their middle portion. Can you please suggest me some ideas how to approach this problem?

The image I have attached is the vertical cross section.
