algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I want to create something (see image). The problem is that I don't know what it is called so I can google it. And with the model I don't know where to begin. I tried something out, but I can't get it right...

I'm still learning grasshopper.

I would appreciate it if somebody could help out here..
