Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello everyone,
I try to design a ellipse form of stadium.

1.         I have developed an elliptical facade for stadium.
In Grasshopper from ellipses and dividing points (see Grasshopper-File)

2.         I have designed a curved Trichordal-Truss from one curve in Rhino.

The Truss is lying in the XY direction and the footer is placed on the zero point.

3.         And now my problem:

I want to put the Truss-object on the feet, move 90°

(from the XY axis to Z axis, see sketch 1).

4.         Then copy / move the truss to all 36-points of ellipse (see sketch 1).

5.         Align the 36 trusses with the center of the triangle .

pointing at the center of the ellipse (see sketch 2).

6.         Using a slider to change the position of the 36-Trusses at der ellipse.

Variable distance between  Truss and ellipse (see sketch 3).

Thanks for you Answer.

Best regards

Hi Noureddine,

I worked on a simplified version of your file, using only the bottom ellipse. What I've done is probably not the best way to do it, but I do recommend using transformation groups (it's easier to transform collections of objects if you group them first) and compound transformations (less memory and processing power wasted on transforming intermediate results).

Hopefully my approach makes sense to you.

Oh and I just realised the [Curve Closest Point] component I added after the [Divide Curve] component is useless because [Divide Curve] already outputs the tangent vectors...

Thanks David for your very helpful solutions.
Now I have found another idea or after installing a problem:
Is it possible after the rotations of truss, not to copy it along the ellipse, but to transfer it to the existing curves (thus 36 existing curves become Trusses).
My reasoning is that the Truss will replace the shape of the curve to 100%, so that there are not two things. The another reason is that the curves R1 and R2 have different bulges in the middle.
So I need to leave them so.

The trusses should remain variable in the direction of the center (which you have already done).

Thamks a lot David,

Excuse me, I found that if we would have two slider one for R1 and another for R2 this would be helpful as well.
