Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I need to make a wall witch is made of boards with random widths between 70mm and 30mm. The gaps between the boards have to me 10 mm. I triend to solve this with grasshopper but got nowhere close so i don't even have a basefile. Hopefully the image gives a better sence of what im looking for. Red is the curve the boards go along. Blue is the profile of the boards.

It can be any size between 30 and 70 mm, or only specific sizes? Do you need the wall as a whole to be an exact width, or is it ok if the last board is a bit longer?

Specific sizes would be even better, say every 10mm. And it does not have to be an exact width. In this case the wall will be 35 meters.

But the boards can be any size between 30 and 70 mm if it simplifys the script.

It doesn't really matter, it's just a different approach. For smoothly varying boards you'd use the random component to generate all widths, for a randomized collection of specifically sized boards you'd need to start with a set of predefined sizes.

Explanatory note: I added together the board width plus the gap and treated them as a single unit. It was easier this way. Just meant that at the end I had to subtract the gap width again.

Thank you so mutch for this. Learned a lot from this script!

Check attachment if you want. it could be a reference for you. Best.
