Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone,

I have been having trouble with this for a while, basically what I am trying to do is panalise this surface.

Except I am able to do it with the UV direction crossing the surface as normal, but what I would like to achieve is the top, where what looks like volcano holes, is the direction which the panels go up to.

So basically I want the U to be the base boundary and the V to be the top of it. (I think)

If that makes no sense I just want the panels to run vertically to the holes.

It could be good if you draw what you want. Just alignment on the holes, could be done with geodesic distance from the edges of holes ....

The only thing I did is to mesh you surface with quad. You could use Rhno 6/WIP/Serengeti with the command quadmesh, and choose the option to not follow the curvature but only follow the seams

You could also use Instant Meshes to get quads.

Hi Laurent. Thank you for that. I did not have the plug in so I couldn't see what you did.

Basically I am trying to panelise that surface with planar surfaces to laser cut and construct.

Do you think it will work? I have just about all the panels working on mine but the panels close to the ends. They don't fit nicely.

Do I have to grab those item singularly and edit them? Or is there a way to push those end shapes to the boundary to make them work

Thank you
The only plugin is Human to show the edges in black. So the mesh is here and you can see the edges in the script.
For the laser cut it depends if you want to make strips or just quad. You can planarize with kangaroo. Ivy plugin is also usable if you want to make paper model... Many solutions ...

I would like to send you what I have done but every time I open the file it takes forever to load!!!

I don't want you to have to wait for it to calculate for 10 minutes... do you know what the problem would be? I understand I would need to clean up my trees but I do not know where to begin.. lol

If I sent JPG would you be able to have a look over it for me please?

I have attached anyway if you cannot help maybe someone else can.

I dont understand why there is some points out in space and the other one I dont know why there is heaps of circles on one spot when I just oriented them to the centre point, why would there be heaps of centre points there?

I remember a Python script done by someone in this forum I think it can flip the UV in multiple directions,

search for it
