Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I'm thinking of scripting a thing that unfolds a diagrid tube, such that it could be strips for laser cutting. The image below is something similar done by hand.

Anyone have experience?

I'm using a VB component written by Giulio Piacentino called newDiagonalsVB to aid this process.

Here's a definition I've been working on to do something similar. It doesn't incorporate tabs like yours, but something like that shouldn't be too hard to add.

Dear Andrew,

Thank you so much for sharing, I have some similar concept of mass adding the transforms together, despite I find it pretty frustrating to sort out the list managements, yours is a really nice work.

I have a much more complicated situation, first: my edges are not triangles, but in part of the diagrid as well.

I'll try adapt. Tell you the result later. tks again.

Cheers

Victor

Dear Andrew and all,

I have made some test piece that combined my logic of assembly and your unfolding technique, the result is pretty promising, you can follow the story here. I'll post a more comprehensive report later.

The script you shared is really helpful.

Cheers

Victor

Hi Victor! I'm trying to creat a double curvature object, very similiar to the ones you presented on your website, I found your method fascinating and super effective!

I managed building a code that divides the surface into a pretty well orginized diagrid but i'm having a super hard time unfolding the geometry as you propose to two overlapping sets of strips.

could you enlightening me on this subject? is your code available on your website? I couldn't find it.

Thank you very much for sharing your work, it helped me very much!

Alon

Hi Alon,

It was a very old and messy script. Couldn't find it + Doesn't work anymore due to version change.

If you look at Andrew's upload, my script had something that looks similar. It is based on a compound transformation to (rotate3D) each neighboring triangle method.

Ok sure thing, i'll try it!

thank you!

looking forward to seeing more of your work.
