parametric input for ship moddeling in grasshopper

I am a little bit new in grasshopper. I run up the tutorial 1 for modeling a ship. I find very interesting the fact to manipulate few parameters to design a first ship design. That is why I would like to know if there is a way grasshopper read these parameters from other sources (for instance a .txt) and model the hull from with these parameters. The .txt would be written by an external program to adapt the geometry. I could use python to connect .txt to grasshopper, and I saw there is a python module in grasshopper but I did not find it in my version and I am not sure it could be relevant for this task.
